Items That Can Be Used As Collateral For Bail Bonds

Blog

Getting a call from a loved one in the middle of the night asking you to bail them out of jail may be surprising, but once you're fully awake, it's time to get to work getting your loved one bailed out of jail. If the bail amount isn't affordable, you will need to call a bail bondsman to get a bail bond.

To get a bail bond you'll need to put something up as collateral. You will only need to put up a small percentage of the full bail amount when using collateral. Here or a list of some of the more common things that can be used as collateral for bail bonds.

Credit Cards

A credit card with a sufficient balance can be used as collateral for the bail bond. To avoid accidentally using the cards, if you need to use more than one card for collateral, it's wise to stop using them during the court proceedings. Put them aside so that you don't accidentally use them, especially if you're approaching your credit limit.

Titles

A vehicle can be used as collateral as long as you have the title to it. In order to have the title of a vehicle, you need to be finished making payments on it and own the vehicle outright. The vehicle needs to be in good, running condition, and it needs to be currently registered and insured. This also holds true for anything that can be titled such as motorcycles, RVs, campers, trailers, boats, snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles, etc.

Real Estate

Real estate property can be used as collateral but there can't be other liens or encumbrances on the property, such as mortgages or property tax liens. As much as you love your loved one and want to help them out, don't be tempted to use your residence as collateral if there is a flight risk as you could lose your home if your loved one fails to show up for court.

Valuables

Anything of value can be used as collateral. If you have any possessions that could be easily pawned, such as jewelry and electronics, those items can be used as collateral for a bail bond. You will need to show proof of ownership and relinquish the possession temporarily as collateral. It will be returned to you only after the court proceedings and requirements have been fulfilled and completed.

finding the right lender for your projects

My yard flooded last year during a heavy summer storm. The only reason it flooded was because the banks along the stream were washed away. I knew that I had to do something to prevent this from happening again, but didn't have the money to do it. I started looking for financing for the project, but wanted to be sure that the financing option that I selected was not going to cost me too much more that it needed to. I found out a lot about lending practices and how to go about financing project such as this. Go through my site to find out what helped me choose the lender for my project.
